Hedgehogs Suffering Strimmer Injuries – How You Can Help Save Them

Published On: 18 March 2025Last Updated: 18 March 2025By

Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue has faced a challenging few days, with multiple hedgehogs arriving at their centre after suffering injuries caused by strimmers. Sadly, in many cases, pain relief is the only option before the animals are taken to the vets for euthanasia.

Hedgehogs at Risk in Gardens and Hedgerows

Hedgehogs often nest in borders, hedgerows, thick undergrowth, and dense vegetation. Their nests are usually well concealed but can be found by parting foliage, revealing a pile or dome of dried leaves, moss, and grasses.

Accidents happen, and no one is to blame, but with greater awareness, these injuries can be prevented, or at the very least, treated immediately.

A Simple Step Could Save Lives

Prickles and Paws is urging the public to take just a minute to check for nests before using strimmers or carrying out clearance work. Raising awareness is key to protecting hedgehogs, and the rescue centre is asking people to spread the word by sharing their message.
