Hedgehog Rescued in Camborne Shows Remarkable Recovery

Published On: 18 February 2024Last Updated: 18 February 2024By

In a heartwarming tale of resilience, a hedgehog named Marcus has captured the attention of animal lovers after being rescued in a dire state. The small creature was discovered out in the daylight in Camborne, an unusual behaviour indicating distress, and was promptly taken into the care of Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue following an intervention by CVETS.

Upon admission, Marcus was found to be significantly underweight, with his hip bones and shoulders visibly protruding. Adding to his woes, the hedgehog suffered abrasions on all four feet and had a partially amputated tail, which was infected. The injuries led the rescue team to speculate that Marcus might have been injured by a vehicle.

The road to recovery was fraught with challenges, requiring several days of intensive care to stabilise his condition. Despite the odds, Marcus has shown a remarkable ability to fight through his ailments. He is currently responding well to treatment for internal parasites, notably lungworm, which he had in the hundreds. Additionally, his tail stump is on the mend, showcasing the resilience of this little fighter.

Marcus’s condition has seen a significant turnaround; his body condition is rapidly improving, and he appears much brighter in spirits. The team at Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue remains hopeful for his continued progress in the coming days.

This story of Marcus not only highlights the incredible work done by wildlife rescuers but also serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by hedgehogs and other wildlife, emphasising the importance of human awareness and kindness towards our small, prickly neighbours.
