Campers Advised to Brace for Severe Weather Conditions in Coming Days
In light of a series of low-pressure systems advancing across the Atlantic, the Kernow Weather Team has issued an urgent advisory for campers, effective from Thursday, 4th April to Sunday, 7th April.
This weather phenomenon is anticipated to bring a mix of strong to gale force winds and heavy rainfall, significantly affecting outdoor activities and camping conditions.
Severe Weather Alert
According to the advisory, there is a high likelihood of encountering wind speeds in excess of 50+mph, accompanied by torrential downpours over the next few days. This situation is expected to peak on Saturday with the arrival of a very deep low-pressure system, heightening concerns for those planning to camp during this period.
Precautionary Measures for Campers
The Kernow Weather Team strongly recommends campers to take the following precautions to mitigate the impact of the severe weather:
- Tent Security: Double peg and tie down all tents to withstand the strong winds. Most high-quality tents are designed to endure such conditions, but extra caution is advised for wind speeds higher than 50mph.
- Safeguarding Camping Gear: Store away any non-essential camping gear and consider parking vehicles close to tents for added protection.
- Caravan Care: For those staying in caravans, ensure that items such as gazebos, awnings, garden furniture, and children’s toys are securely tied down or stored away to prevent damage.
Flooding and Ground Conditions
The advisory also warns of potential localised flooding and the formation of large areas of standing water, exacerbated by the already saturated ground. This situation is likely to be made worse by overwhelmed drainage systems, raising the risk of muddy and slippery conditions at campsites.
Indoor Activities Advised
Given the expected rough conditions, the Kernow Weather Team suggests planning indoor activities for the duration of the weather alert. Campers are urged to remain vigilant and stay informed by keeping an eye on further updates, especially regarding wind speeds which are subject to change.
Safety First
In closing, the Kernow Weather Team emphasises the importance of taking extra care during this period of adverse weather conditions. Campers are advised to closely monitor the team’s Facebook page for the latest weather updates and safety recommendations, ensuring a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience despite the challenging weather forecast.
