Cornwall Named One of the UK’s Most Popular Places to Get Engaged

St Michael’s Mount, Kynance Cove and coastal cliffs stand out as dream proposal spots

Cornwall has been named one of the top five places in the UK to get engaged, according to new research looking at where couples are most likely to pop the question.

Luxury jewellery brand Glamira analysed Instagram posts and Google search trends to find the most popular engagement destinations across the country. While London and Edinburgh took the top two spots, Cornwall wasn’t far behind – coming in fifth overall, ahead of cities like Birmingham, Liverpool and Brighton.

The data looked at Instagram posts tagged with #proposal or #engagement, and combined that with Google searches for things like “best place to propose” and “romantic proposal location”.

In Cornwall, the most featured spots were St Michael’s Mount, Kynance Cove, and stretches of the coast path with sweeping sea views.

Even though Cornwall has a much smaller population than other places in the top five, it still attracted a high number of searches and Instagram posts. The study suggests that couples are choosing to get engaged here while on holiday or a weekend away – and who can blame them?

Other trends spotted in the data include a rise in people searching for “beach proposal” and “sunset proposal” in southern coastal areas, particularly in warmer months. There’s also growing interest in “eco-friendly proposal ideas”, which ties in with the popularity of natural settings like the Cornish coast.
