21/11/2024 – Weather in Cornwall – Yellow Weather Warning For Snow
Devon and parts of Cornwall brace for wintry weather as snow and icy conditions are forecast to disrupt travel.
Warning Details
The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for snow, effective tomorrow from 05:00 to 15:00. Snow is expected to develop across southwest England, with higher parts of Devon and Cornwall most likely to see accumulations. Areas above 200 metres could receive 2-5 cm of snow, while Dartmoor may see up to 10 cm. There is also a chance of snow settling at lower levels in some places.
The warning highlights the potential for travel disruption, with longer journey times expected for road users, bus passengers, and train services.
Ice Risk and Safety Advice
As skies clear into Thursday night, the Met Office warns of a risk of ice developing, increasing hazards for drivers and pedestrians. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys carefully, allow extra travel time, and check for road closures or public transport delays.
For those travelling by car, the Met Office recommends carrying essential items, including warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, an ice scraper or de-icer, a warning triangle, a high-visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.
Snow and Ice Preparedness
This Yellow Weather Warning reflects a medium likelihood of snow and ice occurring, with a low impact expected. However, conditions may change rapidly, and the Met Office advises staying updated with the latest weather forecasts.
