Brace for Wet Weather: Heavy Rain and Travel Disruption Expected

A Yellow Weather Warning for Rain has been issued by the Met Office, with heavy rainfall expected to bring potential travel disruption across Cornwall. The warning is in effect from 08:51 today until 09:00 tomorrow, with drivers and commuters urged to prepare for delays.

What to Expect

According to the Met Office, bus and train services are “probably affected”, leading to longer journey times. Similarly, spray and surface water flooding could cause significant delays on the roads.

Key Advice for Staying Safe

The Met Office has provided tips for staying safe during the heavy rain:

  • Check Travel Conditions: Ensure you check road conditions or public transport timetables before setting off, and adjust travel plans if needed.
  • Prepare for Power Cuts: Gather essential items such as torches, batteries, and mobile phone power packs in case of power outages.
  • Flood Precautions: Check if your property is at risk of flooding and consider creating a flood plan and emergency kit.

Rainfall Breakdown

Heavy rain is expected throughout today and overnight, with 15-20mm of rainfall anticipated in many areas, and up to 30mm in some locations—particularly in southwest England. In contrast, southeast England may see conditions ease after early afternoon.

Unsettled Weather Expected into Monday

The rainfall is forecast to move eastward and may bring wet snow on its trailing edge as it clears through Monday morning.

Why a Yellow Warning?

The Met Office explains that a yellow warning represents a medium likelihood of disruption with low impact. However, conditions can change quickly, so staying updated with the latest forecast is crucial.
