What Weighs as Much as 16.7 Million Pasties? Cornwall’s Food Recycling Total!

Published On: 30 October 2024Last Updated: 30 October 2024By

Cornwall’s commitment to recycling has reached an impressive milestone, according to the latest update from Cornwall Council. Since the council introduced its new food waste collection service, residents have recycled over 5,000 tonnes of waste – a substantial figure equivalent to some surprising comparisons.

Breaking Down the Numbers

The amount recycled so far is the same weight as 400 double-decker buses, 7,873 cows, or a staggering 16.7 million Cornish pasties. This achievement demonstrates the scale of food waste being responsibly managed, helping to keep unnecessary waste out of Cornwall’s landfill sites and supporting a more sustainable future.

What Goes in the Food Caddy?

Cornwall’s new food waste service enables residents to recycle everyday food items, including vegetable peelings, banana skins, tea bags, and other similar food scraps. By consistently using these food caddies, Cornwall residents are contributing to the reduction of waste and promoting recycling efforts that benefit the local environment.

Thanks to Cornwall’s Residents

The council expressed gratitude to Cornwall’s residents for embracing this new system, recognising the community’s positive response to this service and the environmental benefits it brings. The results reflect Cornwall’s dedication to recycling and reducing waste in everyday life.
