Recycle Your Small Electricals at Cornwall Libraries and Leisure Centres Until January

Cornwall residents can now easily recycle their small, unwanted electrical items at various libraries and leisure centres across the Duchy, thanks to a collaboration between Cornwall Council and REPIC. The scheme runs until January, providing a temporary, convenient solution for recycling items like old mobile phones, cables, and small kitchen gadgets.

What Can Be Recycled?

The collection points accept small electrical items that are toaster or kettle-sized or smaller. Examples include:

• Old chargers and cables
• Mobile phones
• Hairdryers and stylers
• Handheld kitchen appliances
• Electrical games, keyboards, and speakers
• Radios and DVD players

Excluded items: Please avoid placing vapes, electrical cigarettes, lightbulbs, loose batteries, or large appliances in the collection boxes.

Why Recycling Matters

Carol Mould, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, expressed gratitude to REPIC for arranging the collection boxes, highlighting how they make it easier for residents to recycle items they might otherwise leave at home.

Graeme Milne, Chief Executive at REPIC, emphasised the importance of recycling electricals, noting that many households have unused items that could be recycled. “With 823 million electrical items lying unused in homes, the launch of these collection points will provide an essential service for residents to safely and responsibly recycle,” he said. “It’s a simple but effective way for everyone to contribute to reducing the environmental impact of electronic waste, while also enabling the recovery of valuable materials that can be reused.”
