New Rubbish and Recycling Collection Service Rolls Out in North East Cornwall on 4th November

Published On: 26 October 2024Last Updated: 26 October 2024By

Service change affects 55,000 households in Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin, Camelford, Tintagel, Launceston, Bude, and surrounding areas.

From 4th November, Cornwall Council will launch its new waste collection service across North East Cornwall, impacting around 55,000 households. Residents in Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin, Camelford, Tintagel, Launceston, Bude, and nearby areas can expect changes to their collection days and routines as Cornwall Council rolls out the new service over two weeks.

The council aims to support residents in reducing waste, increasing recycling, and fostering a more sustainable community. The service introduces weekly food waste collection and fortnightly rubbish collection to align with the council’s environmental goals.

Find Your Collection Day

Each household’s collection day may vary, so residents are encouraged to check the ‘Go!’ Collection Calendar posted to them in October or visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/myarea for specific property information. Waste should be placed out by 7am on the designated collection day.

Preparation and Support

Cornwall Council has worked extensively to ensure North East Cornwall residents are equipped for the change. Each household has received updated collection information and calendars, along with the necessary bins and caddies. Council recycling engagement officers have been holding roadshows in libraries, village halls, and community centres across the area, providing face-to-face support to help residents adjust.

“We know from the experience in other areas that there may be a few teething problems in the first few weeks,” the council stated, acknowledging that some households may find adapting to a new collection day and the separation of food waste challenging. The council remains committed to helping residents transition smoothly.

Tips for Getting Started

To assist residents in managing the change effectively, the council has provided a checklist:

  • Double-check collection day: The new service begins 4th November in rollout area 4. Collections may change, so residents are advised to review the information provided in their ‘Go!’ leaflet or check online at Cornwall Council’s website.
  • Reuse old bins: Existing bins will no longer be collected under the new service. Residents can repurpose old bins for garden use or storage, or alternatively, they can register for the council’s recycling service for old bins by signing up by 6th November at midnight. Find more details here.
  • Check for missing bins: Residents without the required bins or food waste caddies are asked to inform the council at www.cornwall.gov.uk/wastechanges or by calling 0300 1234 141.
  • Keep recycling: The council encourages all residents to recycle items such as food waste, cardboard, glass, plastics, cans, paper, and textiles. New or replacement bags can be ordered through the council’s website at www.cornwall.gov.uk/recycling.

Extra Support for Vulnerable Residents

The council has also put measures in place to support the most vulnerable residents. Those needing assistance can visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/wastechanges for information or connect with a council representative for direct help.

Cornwall Council appreciates the community’s cooperation and patience during this transition. For more details on the new rubbish and recycling service, and for further assistance, residents are encouraged to visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/wastechanges.
