New Online Booking System At Newquay and Saltash Aims to Slash Wait Times at Cornwall Recycling Centres

Published On: 5 September 2024Last Updated: 5 September 2024By

Cornwall is set to see shorter queues at its busiest recycling centres as a new online booking system goes live this month. Cornwall Council has introduced the system to streamline visits and enhance safety on the roads surrounding the Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in Newquay, Saltash, and soon, St Erth.

A Change for the Better

Starting September 9, visitors to the recycling centres in Newquay and Saltash will need to book a 30-minute slot before arrival. The system, which is a part of a trial aimed at reducing congestion and improving efficiency, will be extended to St Erth HWRC from September 23.

Councillor Carol Mould, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, emphasised the benefits of the new system. “We know it’s frustrating when there are queues at the HWRCs,” she said. “We’ve developed a booking system to reduce waiting times and queues, help keep road users safe and minimise disruption to residents and businesses.”

Booking Made Simple

Booking a slot is straightforward and can be done either online at Cornwall Council’s booking page or by calling 0300 1234 141. Slots can be booked for the same day if available, or up to a week in advance. Upon booking, visitors will receive an email confirmation.

Carol Mould also advised visitors to sort their items into different materials before arriving to further speed up the process. “This means we can recycle more and will save you time when you arrive at the sites,” she added.

Important Details

Visitors must arrive in the vehicle they booked and bear in mind that certain vehicles, like vans or pick-up trucks, require a permit to enter the sites. More information on vehicle permits can be found on the Cornwall Council HWRC vehicle permit page. It is important to note that the HWRCs cannot be used to dispose of any trade or commercial waste.

The implementation of the booking system at Newquay and Saltash is a significant step towards a more organised and user-friendly recycling service. Residents of Cornwall are encouraged to make use of this new system to help maintain a smooth and efficient recycling process.
