Booking System Expanded to More Recycling Centres Across Cornwall: What You Need to Know
Cornwall Council is expanding its trial of a booking system for Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) to improve road safety and reduce waiting times.
The trial, already in place at Newquay, Saltash, and St Erth HWRCs, will now include four additional locations: Bude, Launceston, St Austell, and Bodmin (Lanivet).
When and Where the System Starts
From 29th November, visitors to the Bude and Launceston HWRCs will need to book a slot before arriving. The system will extend to St Austell and Bodmin (Lanivet) HWRCs from 9th December.
Councillor Carol Mould, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, highlighted the success of the existing trial. “It’s quick and easy to book a slot and residents can select a time that works for them. More than 50,000 bookings have been made since we started the trial at Newquay, Saltash and St Erth, and more than half of those bookings were made on the day.”
Benefits of the Booking System
According to Carol, feedback on the trial has been “overwhelmingly positive,” with residents reporting shorter queues and improved road safety.
“We have seen such a positive impact that we have decided to extend the trial to four more HWRCs,” she added.
How to Book Your Visit
To book a 30-minute slot, visit the Cornwall Council website. Bookings can be made for the same day (subject to availability) or up to a week in advance. Confirmation emails will be sent after booking.
If you need help booking or cannot get online, call 0300 1234 141.
Remember to arrive in the vehicle registered for your booking. Vehicle permits may be required for certain vehicles, such as vans or pick-up trucks. For more information on permits, visit the Cornwall Council’s vehicle permit guidance webpage.
Important Information for Businesses
The HWRCs are for household waste only, and disposing of trade or commercial waste at these centres is illegal. Businesses can access advice on managing commercial waste here.
Cornwall Council also offers a commercial waste service, with more details available here.
This expansion follows positive results from the initial trial, which has already made visits more efficient and safer for Cornwall residents.
