Work to Start on Next Phase of Malpas Road Improvements on 7th July

Night works, lane closures and safety upgrades coming to Truro

A new phase of the Malpas transport scheme is set to begin on Monday 7th July, focusing on the Malpas Road junction off Trafalgar Roundabout.

The work is part of the Truro Town Deal funded Green Transport project, aiming to create a safer, more accessible route for walking and cycling along Malpas Road. Delivered by Cornwall Council in partnership with the Truro Town Deal Board, the wider scheme is designed to transform travel in and around Truro with a sustainable network of walking, cycling and urban spaces.

What this phase includes

The latest stage of work will last eight weeks and is being carried out by Cormac. It includes:

  • Removing and rebuilding the existing splitter island

  • Realigning the junction

  • Installing new kerbs and footways

  • Adding dropped crossings to make it easier for pedestrians to cross

This follows earlier upgrades to the area, including the replacement of the Pendeen Road roundabout with a landscaped green space, better footpath access, new crossing points to the riverside, traffic calming features, planting, paving and seating.

Night-time works and traffic changes

To maintain traffic flow during the day, the work will be done overnight on weekdays, between 7pm and 4am. There will be lane closures and temporary running lanes during these hours. All traffic management will be removed in the daytime, and access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Drivers are being asked to allow extra time for their journeys due to the possibility of delays.

Cormac have said the works may generate unavoidable construction noise, but measures are being put in place to minimise disruption.

“We recognise that this may cause some inconvenience to residents and will be working closely with all stakeholders to keep disruption to a minimum,” said project manager Gemma Downing.
“Noise mitigation measures will be in place throughout the works and particularly noisy operations will be carried out before 11pm.
We are very grateful to everyone for their patience and support whilst these improvements are underway.”
