What’s Happening at Truro’s Lemon Quay? Exploratory Work Kicks Off 24th October
Exploratory Work to Start 24th October
Starting on Thursday, 24th October, contractors will be conducting exploratory work on Lemon Quay, right outside Cotswolds and the Hall for Cornwall. This is part of a larger plan for the Lemon Quay improvements, which are connected to the Truro Town Fund project. The public can find more details about the Truro Town Deal and its ongoing developments on the Truro Town Fund website.
What’s Changing at Lemon Quay?
The upcoming improvements to Lemon Quay are set to transform the area into a more welcoming and usable public space. Key elements of the project include newly planted trees, soft landscaping, and the addition of street furniture. These changes aim to enhance the visual appearance, boost biodiversity, and provide more opportunities for people to relax and play.
Here’s what to expect:
- New Tree Planting and Landscaping: The design incorporates trees chosen for their ability to provide shelter and add visual appeal throughout the seasons. The addition of benches and landscaping will encourage the public to sit, relax, and enjoy the space.
- Improved Lighting and Safety: Lighting upgrades will make the area safer and more inviting, especially during the evening hours.
- Enhanced River Views: The new layout will improve visibility of Truro River, allowing better connection to the surrounding landscape.
- Street Furniture and Event Services: Existing street furniture and signage will be rationalised to reduce clutter. Additional buried services are planned to support a wider variety of events on the quay.
- Cycle Parking: Enhanced cycle parking provisions will be added to promote the use of green transport links around the area.
A Space for All
The improvements aim to make Lemon Quay more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Whether it’s the added benches, increased safety measures, or the carefully curated tree species, the focus is on creating a space that reflects the area’s rich history while offering a functional backdrop for events. The artist Tim Shaw, known for the iconic Drummer sculpture, is part of the discussions shaping the design, ensuring that the changes are in harmony with the artistic and historical significance of the area.
