Truro’s Purple Poo Campaign Sees Positive Impact in Local Areas
Truro’s Countryside Rangers have reported a notable reduction in the amount of dog poo found along the Coosebean Cycle track, highlighting the effectiveness of the recent “Purple Poo Campaign.” The campaign, which is part of an initiative to raise awareness about the environmental impact of dog waste, has seen a significant decrease in the number of dog poos counted in the area.
As of the 16th of February, 2024, volunteers recorded a total of 60 instances of dog poo along the Coosebean Cycle track, a sharp decrease from the 133 counted on the 2nd of February, 2024. This reduction showcases the campaign’s success in encouraging dog owners to be more responsible with their pet’s waste. In a detailed breakdown, it was noted that 12 of these were found in Zone 5 of the track.
The Purple Poo Campaign has utilised volunteers to measure routes and report on the frequency of dog poo encountered during walks along the cycle track. According to their findings, there is now roughly one dog poo every 27 steps, a statistic aimed at highlighting the prevalence of the issue and the importance of addressing it.
The campaign has also covered other local areas, with counts performed at Daubuz Moor and Tremorvah Playing Field. On the 9th of February, 2024, Daubuz Moor reported a total of 16 dog poos, while Tremorvah Playing Field had a total of 59 on the 26th of January, 2024. These figures, compared to previous counts, indicate a community-wide effort is making strides towards cleaner and more enjoyable public spaces.
The Countryside Rangers have expressed their gratitude towards the volunteers for their dedication and hard work in contributing to the campaign’s success. This initiative not only aims to clean up local areas but also to preserve the beauty of the surroundings for residents and visitors alike.
The Purple Poo Campaign is a testament to the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the positive impact that collective action can have on public health and the enjoyment of outdoor spaces. The Countryside Rangers continue to encourage dog owners to participate in the campaign by being mindful of their pets’ impact on the environment.
