Truro Special Constable Team Scoops Top Award at D&C Citizens in Policing Awards

The Truro Special Constable Team has been honoured with the Special Constabulary Team of the Year award at the D&C Citizens in Policing Awards, held on Saturday, 14th September 2024. The team was recognised for their outstanding dedication and support to response and neighbourhood policing activities, often stepping up to handle emergency calls during peak demand.

Supporting Truro and Beyond

The citation highlighted the team’s proactive approach and flexibility in their duties. In addition to their work in Truro, the Special Constable Team has supported stations in Camborne and Falmouth throughout the year, showcasing their commitment to the broader community.

Impressive Achievements

Between June 2023 and June 2024, the team of six—Christopher, Miranda, Laura, Mike, James, and Jon—contributed a remarkable 2,870 hours of volunteer service. Despite one team member joining as recently as May 2024, they have collectively:

• Carried out 108 double-crewed shifts with fellow Special Constables.
• Completed 81 shifts alongside a Police Constable.
• Responded to 288 immediate 999 calls.
• Made 40 arrests and assisted in a further 50.

Their efforts have been bolstered by the unwavering support from their colleagues in Truro, who have guided and encouraged them in their roles.

Leadership Acknowledged

Special mention was given to Scott and James for their leadership, which has been instrumental in the team’s success. Their support has enabled the Truro Special Constable Team to excel in their duties and serve their communities effectively.
