Truro City Council Appoints New Deputy Town Clerk
Truro City Council has appointed Esther Grieg as the new Deputy Town Clerk, a first in the history of the council.
Esther Grieg, who is currently serving as the town clerk and responsible financial officer for Camelford, will officially step into her new role on Monday, March 4, 2024. This announcement comes from Truro Mayor Cllr Carol Swain, who expressed her delight and confidence in Esther’s capabilities. “We had an extremely strong field of candidates and were very pleased to offer Esther the role,” said Cllr Swain.
Esther brings a wealth of experience to the position, with 13 years of dedicated service in various clerk roles for Parish and Town Councils. Her tenure as Clerk to Camelford Town Council, which began in 2017, has been marked by significant achievements and positive impacts on the community. Prior to her involvement in local government, Esther had a substantial career in financial services, including roles at Barclays, Santander, and General Motors, followed by a stint in the entertainment industry as a Retail Operations Manager and Project Coordinator for Universal Cinemas International.
Reflecting on her time at Camelford, Esther expressed her pride in the council’s accomplishments. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Camelford and am very proud of the many positive things the Council has achieved during the past seven years,” she remarked. Her decision to move on, she explained, was driven by a desire for new challenges, particularly drawn to the Deputy Town Clerk role’s emphasis on finance and service delivery.
Esther’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for Truro, as the city navigates various developmental projects and societal challenges. The Truro Town Deal programme and the development of Pydar and Langarth Garden Village projects are among the key initiatives she will be involved with, alongside addressing broader issues such as housing pressure, retail decline, and the cost of living crisis.
Looking ahead, Esther is enthusiastic about her new role and the prospects it holds. “I am looking forward to joining the team at the City Council and working with partners so that we can grasp these opportunities and tackle the challenges and build a vibrant future for the city,” she said, outlining her vision for Truro’s future under her stewardship.
With Esther’s appointment, Truro City Council reaffirms its commitment to strong leadership, as it seeks to usher in a new era of growth and prosperity for the city.
