Seized Cars Donated to College: Why Students Are Thrilled

Devon & Cornwall Police has donated three seized vehicles to Truro and Penwith College, marking a first for the region. The cars, previously confiscated from unlicensed drivers, will now serve as vital learning tools for the college’s Automotive students.

Supporting Student Learning with Real Cars

Instead of crushing the vehicles, the police handed them over to the college, allowing students to explore and learn from the mechanics of real cars. The initiative aims to enhance the hands-on experience for budding automotive professionals.

Sergeant Owen Messenger, a car enthusiast from Devon & Cornwall Police’s road casualty reduction team, met with students to discuss road safety. Known for his popular posts on Georgescarmedia, Owen’s visit was a hit among the automotive cohort. Students were excited to delve under the hoods of the donated vehicles with guidance from the police team.

Promoting Road Safety

Devon & Cornwall Police used the opportunity to stress the importance of road safety, including the necessity of wearing seat belts and the dangers of drink and drug driving. Highlighting the risks for passengers, the team also reminded students that the passenger seat is the most vulnerable spot in a car.

By combining education with practical experience, this collaboration between the college and the police is providing an invaluable opportunity for students while promoting safer roads across the region.
