Police Appeal After Body of Man Found in Woodland Near Truro
Police appeal for footage and witnesses as investigation continues
Detectives are appealing for the public’s help after the body of a man was found in woodland between Truro and Probus.
The discovery was made at around 6pm on Tuesday 1st July. The body has now been formally identified as 50-year-old Lee Hockey, from the Truro area. His next of kin have been informed.
Police say Lee’s death is currently being treated as unexplained but is believed to be suspicious.
Last confirmed sighting in Trispen
Investigators have confirmed that Lee spent most of Monday 23rd June in Truro city centre, before taking a bus to the Trispen area. The last confirmed sighting of him was later that evening in Trispen, and it is believed he would have travelled on foot from there.
Detective Inspector Rob Smith, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said:
“Our investigation is continuing at pace and we are now appealing for information from the public which may further assist us.”
He continued:
“We are urging anyone who may have passed through Trispen, Tresillian or the surrounding villages, and who has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage in those areas, to please check them.
“If you have anything that may be relevant to us, please report it as a priority.”
Increased police presence in the area
DI Smith also confirmed that there will be a heightened police presence around Trispen and Tresillian over the coming days, with local officers carrying out reassurance patrols.
“At this time there is no information to suggest that there is any wider risk to the community, however, we appreciate that an incident of this nature will cause concern,” he said.
Submit information or footage
Detectives have launched a Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) to help gather information and large video files directly from the public.
If you have any relevant footage or information that could assist police, you can submit it through the MIPP here or by scanning the QR code above, which was shared by officers.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area between Trispen and Probus around the end of June to check their devices and get in touch as soon as possible.
