Molly Hocking Headlines Truro Big Sing: Festive Fundraiser for Christian Aid
This year’s Truro Big Sing promises an evening of festive joy and heartfelt music as Cornish singing sensation Molly Hocking joins the line-up. The event, in support of international development charity Christian Aid, will take place at Truro Cathedral on Friday, 13th December, at 7pm.
A Star-Studded Evening
Molly Hocking, a 23-year-old from St Ives who won The Voice UK in 2019, will be among the performers. Since her victory, Molly has pursued her music career as an independent artist, releasing her latest track You Can’t Hold Me Down in June.
She will perform alongside the Falmouth Gospel Choir, with the evening’s sermon delivered by The Rt Revd Hugh Nelson, The Bishop of St Germans and Acting Diocesan Bishop.
The Truro Big Sing, organised by Christian Aid supporters Jenny Kwee and Sue Pettit in collaboration with the cathedral team, aims to raise funds for those affected by conflicts across the globe.

Supporting Refugees from Conflict
Christian Aid’s 2024 Christmas appeal shines a light on the plight of people in South Sudan. Thousands have sought refuge there after fleeing conflict in neighbouring Sudan, with many arriving in extreme poverty.
The funds raised from the Big Sing will support Christian Aid’s efforts, such as providing financial assistance through groups like the Smile Again Africa Development Organisation. This aid helps refugees prioritise their needs and regain a sense of stability.
James Wani, Country Director of Christian Aid South Sudan, highlighted the challenges: “The arrival of hundreds of thousands of people to areas already experiencing extreme poverty has put enormous pressure on authorities and humanitarian organisations alike. Offering financial assistance means people can prioritise their own specific needs and decide how to meet them and is a lifeline for families who’ve left everything behind to survive. It’s a programme which brings choice, hope and dignity to people who’ve lost so much.”
One refugee, Shede, a mother of three, shared her harrowing experience: “Fighting broke out and homes were bombed. Food was no longer available. The situation was dire. I did not come with anything. I only came with these clothes on. The rest of my belongings were all left behind. No table, no teapot, no chair, no bed. Nothing.”
A Warm Welcome Awaits
Sue Pettit from Truro Christian Aid Group said, “The Big Sing is such a joyous way to celebrate Christmas and raise funds to help those in desperate need.” Co-organiser Jenny Kwee added, “We’re delighted to have Molly with us, as well as our amazing performers, this year and we can’t wait to welcome the public as well. The Big Sing is the time to come and sing along to your favourite carols as well as hearing music from our guests and raising money for vulnerable communities living with conflict around the world.”
All are welcome to join the Truro Big Sing and experience an evening of music, hope, and community. For more information about Christian Aid and their work, visit Christian Aid’s website.
