Fixing Cornwall’s Roads: Over 35,000 Potholes Repaired

Published On: 13 July 2024Last Updated: 13 July 2024By

Cornwall’s highways extend across a distance that, if laid out in a straight line, would reach from Lands End to Vancouver. This extensive network faces considerable wear and tear, with a significant increase in potholes observed over the past year.

Record Number of Potholes Repaired

Between April 2023 and March 2024, Cornwall’s highways crews tackled the challenge head-on, repairing more than 35,000 potholes. Their efforts ensured that over 98% of the most severe potholes were fixed within 48 hours, demonstrating a swift response to the issue.

Diverse Repair Techniques

Potholes come in various forms and require different techniques for effective repair. Cornwall Council employs multiple methods to address these road imperfections, ensuring that repairs are durable and appropriate for each specific situation.

Monitoring and Reporting

Regular monitoring of the roads helps identify areas needing attention. However, Cornwall Council also encourages residents to participate in maintaining road quality by reporting potholes directly through the “Report It” pages on their website. This collaborative approach aids in keeping the roads safer for all users.

By focusing on both proactive monitoring and community involvement, Cornwall Council strives to maintain and improve the condition of its extensive highway network.
