First Cars Hit the Road: A30 Dual Carriageway Now Open

Published On: 25 June 2024Last Updated: 25 June 2024By

Yesterday morning marked a significant milestone for Cornwall as the first vehicles travelled along the newly-opened A30 dual carriageway between Chiverton and Carland Cross. The completion of this major route has been eagerly awaited by locals and visitors alike.

A Smooth Ride Ahead

The opening of this new section of the A30 is a key development for the region, promising to ease traffic congestion and improve travel times. The project, which began in March 2020, is part of the Government’s Roads Investment Strategy and has received substantial funding, including an £8 million contribution from the European Regional Development Fund.

As motorists start using this new route, they are urged to drive carefully and take the time to familiarise themselves with the new junction layouts:

Local Road Closures and Diversions

Despite the main carriageway opening, there is still ongoing work on local roads and infrastructure. Notably, from 9 am Monday 24th June, there will be a full 24/7 closure of the B3277 link road from Chiverton Junction to the Services roundabout until Friday, 12th July.

Traffic heading from the A30 to St Agnes will be redirected via the A30 to Scorrier junction, through Blackwater, and back onto the B3277 at the Services roundabout. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys during this period.

Additionally, temporary traffic lights will be installed on the A3075 near Chiverton Junction following the B3277 closure. Further details will be provided in subsequent updates.

Future Works and Updates

The work in the area is set to continue over the coming months, with potential overnight closures of the A30 later this year as part of the project’s final stages.

To stay informed about these updates and other roadworks in the region, motorists can follow National Highways on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, or visit the project’s webpage for detailed information.
