Ferry Refit Delay? What’s Happening with the LYNHER in Falmouth Drydock?
Fear of schedule slip after strong winds disrupted plans
Torpoint ferry LYNHER has now been successfully moved into drydock at Falmouth, allowing essential refit work to begin after weather-related delays.
Strong Winds May Affect Return to Service
The refit was originally due to start last week, but strong winds prevented the ferry from entering drydock as planned. As a result, there may now be changes to the scheduled programme and the LYNHER’s return to service.
“The refit process is expected to take up to eight weeks to complete. With strong winds preventing the ferry from being moved into drydock last week as expected, this may result in a change to the planned refit schedule and the vessel’s return to service,” a statement confirmed.
As reported previously by CornishStuff, concerns about delays were raised after high winds impacted the ferry’s movement — read our earlier update here.
Working with A&P Falmouth
Tamar Crossings confirmed it will be working closely with A&P Falmouth throughout the programme to manage the schedule and return the LYNHER to service as soon as possible.
“We will be working closely with A&P Falmouth to manage the refit programme and ensure that the ferry returns to service as quickly as possible.”
Temporary Timetable in Place
While the LYNHER is out of action, the Torpoint Ferry service continues to operate with the remaining two ferries. Crossings are scheduled every 15 minutes from each side between 06:30 and 22:00, and a single ferry provides a half-hourly night service from 22:00 to 06:30.
Updates are being shared regularly on the Tamar Crossings website and via their social media channels.
