Top chef and avid motorcyclist Paul Ainsworth has shared his favourite motorcycling routes in Cornwall on the inaugural episode of the motorbike podcast Full Chat.
Known for his Michelin-starred culinary ventures, Paul has carved out a niche in Cornwall’s restaurant scene and finds motorcycling a perfect escape from the high pressures of the business world.
A Chef’s Ride: From Kitchens to Cornish Roads
Since relocating from London to Cornwall in 2005, Paul has not only expanded his gastronomic footprint but also continued his passion for motorcycling, a hobby he nurtured while working in London under culinary giants like Gary Rhodes, Gordon Ramsay, and Marcus Wareing. “I went on some incredible trips on my Yamaha R6,” Paul shared during the podcast, reflecting on his journeys from the bustling city to the serene landscapes of Cornwall.
Scenic Splendour: Padstow to Bude
On “Full Chat,” Paul revealed that the ride from Padstow to Bude stands out as particularly spectacular. “It’s breathtaking,” he remarked. The chef recounted a memorable ride he took from London to Cornwall on his Yamaha R6, battling all types of weather, only to be greeted by a beautiful morning in Bude that made the arduous journey worthwhile.
Coastal Journeys and Serendipitous Meetings
Paul’s exploration of Cornwall’s coastline continued with a stunning ride from Padstow to Newquay, where the beauty of the coastal road was a highlight. A spontaneous stop at the Strawberry Fields farm shop near Lifton led to an unexpected meeting with a fellow motorcycling enthusiast. This encounter not only showcased the camaraderie within the biking community but also allowed Paul to spend time admiring an impressive collection of bikes, including a Yamaha R1 and a Honda Fireblade.
More Than Just a Chef
Throughout the podcast episode, Paul discussed a variety of topics, from his upbringing in Southampton to his ascent in the culinary world, illustrating how his career and personal passion for motorbiking intertwine. His stories convey a deep appreciation for Cornwall’s landscape and the sense of freedom and community found on the open road.
Listeners can tune into “Full Chat” to hear more about Paul Ainsworth’s adventures and insights into both his culinary and motorcycling journeys.
