In a recent update concerning the ongoing improvements and maintenance work on the A30, a vital route stretching between Boxheater and Scorrier, significant changes have been announced to accommodate the weekend closure from Friday, March 8th, to Monday, March 11th, 2024.
The closure, effective from 8 PM on Friday evening until 6 AM on Monday morning, is part of a series of planned disruptions aimed at facilitating critical infrastructure enhancements, including the Chiverton flyover.
Notably, this period will see a modification to the westbound Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) diversion route. This adjustment is specifically tailored to accommodate high-sided vehicles, redirecting them via Chacewater to bypass the Scorrier low bridge, which stands at a height restriction of 4.7 meters (approximately 15 feet 3 inches). This temporary alteration has been implemented in coordination with Cornwall Council, responding to urgent repairs on the A393 Sandy Lane due to a collapsed mineshaft, a route previously designated for such diversions.
Diversion
Traffic for all closures will be diverted via the B3285, A3075 and B3277 with different routes for HGVs, see below.
Local access north and south at the new Chiverton interchange and via the B3284 at Chybucca will be maintained throughout these closures.

Temporary diversion route for westbound HGV traffic
Throughout the closure, general traffic will be rerouted via the B3285, A3075, and B3277, with specific adjustments for HGVs to ensure smooth transit and minimal disruption. Local access will be maintained north and south of the new Chiverton interchange and via the B3284 at Chybucca, ensuring community connectivity.
The Department of Transportation urges travellers and commercial transport operators to plan their journeys in advance, accommodating the expected delays and route changes. These measures are part of a broader schedule of closures throughout March and April 2024; detailed planning and advance notifications aim to mitigate impact and facilitate the timely completion of the A30 dual carriageway project and associated infrastructure enhancements.
As the project progresses, further information, including future closure dates and diversion routes, will be made available through the National Highways website, ensuring the public remains informed and prepared for upcoming travel adjustments.
