A30 to Experience Overnight Closures Monday 18/03/2024 – Thursday 21/03/2024

The A30, a crucial segment of the UK’s Strategic Road Network, is set to undergo significant overnight closures as part of its ongoing upgrade efforts. The closures will occur between Boxheater and Chiverton, beginning Monday, 18 March, and concluding on Thursday, 21 March. The road will be closed from 8 pm to 6 am each night to facilitate essential surfacing and infrastructure improvements.

This development comes as part of the comprehensive upgrade of the A30 single carriageway stretching from Chiverton Cross to Carland Cross roundabouts, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety on this vital artery. Recognizing the strategic importance of this route, the project has secured an £8m investment from the European Regional Development Fund and is a key component of the Government’s Roads Investment Strategy.

In addition to the overnight closures, a weekend closure is scheduled from Friday, 22 March at 8 pm until Monday, 25 March at 6 am. To mitigate the impact on motorists, including those in HGVs and high-sided vehicles, a designated diversion route will be in place via the B3285 and A3075.

The authorities have assured that access for local residents, particularly those residing north and south of the construction zones, will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, with specific provisions for access via the B3284 at Chybucca.

As the eastern section of the upgrade nears completion, a new traffic layout at Carland Cross is anticipated to be implemented by the end of March. This interim alignment will allow traffic to continue flowing while work on the new junction progresses.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for travel due to the anticipated disruptions. These closures mark a critical phase in the upgrade project, promising to enhance the overall efficiency and safety of the A30 upon completion.

As the project progresses, further information, including future closure dates and diversion routes, will be made available through the National Highways website, ensuring the public remains informed and prepared for upcoming travel adjustments.
