Massive Blaze Tears Through Mount Edgcumbe Estate Home – Fire Crews Battle for Hours
A fierce fire engulfed a residential property on the Mount Edgcumbe estate yesterday afternoon, drawing firefighters from across Cornwall and Devon in a major response.
Fire Breaks Out – Crews Mobilised
At 16:08 on 4th February 2025, a crew of six from Torpoint Community Fire Station was dispatched to the scene, supported by a fire engine from Liskeard. On arrival, the fire had already taken hold, with the affected compartment well alight.
A breathing apparatus (BA) team was sent in to tackle the flames and protect any salvageable property. However, the fire spread rapidly to the roof space, escalating the situation and requiring additional resources.
Reinforcements Called as Fire Escalates
Fire crews from multiple stations were called in to assist, including teams from Torpoint, Liskeard, St Austell, Saltash, Launceston, Callington, Lostwithiel, and even Devon and Somerset.
Specialist units were also deployed, including the Incident Command Unit, BA support unit, and a welfare truck. A total of 14 BA teams (28 firefighters) were committed to the operation.
Fire Brought Under Control After Seven-Hour Battle
Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, and by 11pm, the fire was finally under control. Fortunately, no one was reported inside the property at the time, and all personnel were unharmed.
Torpoint Community Fire Station has thanked all stations involved, noting that crews worked effectively together to manage the incident and support one another throughout.
