Summercourt Fair Returns: Celebrate the 790th Year with Fun, Food, and Festivities

Market Day Back for the First Time Since COVID

Summercourt Fair, one of the oldest fairs in Cornwall, is returning this year with more excitement and activities than ever. The event, which has been celebrated annually since 1234, is now in its 790th year and is set to take place on Wednesday, 25th September from 10 am to 10 pm on School Road, Summercourt until Sunday September 29th.

The fair has a unique charm that has kept it alive through centuries, including world wars and more recently, the pandemic. However, this year marks a significant return, as the traditional market day is back for the first time since COVID-19 disrupted the event. Organisers have worked tirelessly to bring the market back to its former glory, promising the largest market Summercourt has seen in years.

A Day of Fun for the Whole Family

The children of Summercourt School will have the day off, just like in the old days, to enjoy a plethora of stalls and activities. From face painting to bakery stalls, hair braiding, and a variety of food options including nachos, pizza, and Thai cuisine, there is something for everyone. Those with a sweet tooth can indulge in ice cream, cakes, and sweets, while shoppers can explore stalls selling fresh meat, arts and crafts, jewellery, candles, toys, and much more.

The market also features a selection of unique items such as disco beads, crystals, and Christmas gifts, making it an ideal place to pick up something special. There will also be a range of charity stalls, including a garage sale at Ivybank, with all proceeds going to the Sticker Memory Cafe in memory of Iris’ late husband.

For families with young children, special appearances by Bluey and Sonic are scheduled for 4:45 pm outside the London Inn pub. The characters will be available for a 30-minute meet and greet, sure to delight the little ones.

Road Closures and Parking Information

Due to the size of the event, School Road will be closed for the market, so attendees are advised to plan their travel accordingly. Parking will be available around the village and in the main car park behind the fair on St Austell Street.

Funfair Continues Until Sunday

The festivities won’t stop on market day. The funfair will continue until Sunday, 29th September, with Saturday, 28th September featuring additional attractions such as Showman’s Steam Engines and even dinosaurs!
