In a Remarkable Display of Skill, Falmouth Lifeboat Crew Aids in Re-floating a Grounded RIB
A small recreational inflatable boat (RIB) found itself in distress off the coast between St. Mawes and St. Just, prompting an urgent response from the Falmouth Lifeboat team. The incident, which occurred on Friday, May 3, marks the second time in two days that the crew has been called into action for emergencies in this coastal area.
Swift Response
The HM Coastguard promptly alerted the Falmouth Lifeboat station on Friday, following a report of the RIB running aground. The lifeboat crew was paged at 12:49 pm, and they launched the inshore lifeboat swiftly within 10 minutes amid slight seas and a moderate south-western wind, blowing at a force of 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale.
Efficient Rescue Operation
Arriving at the scene by 1:05 pm, the crew assessed the situation quickly. With the tide beginning to rise, the helm made the decisive move to deploy two crew members ashore. These skilled individuals assisted the boat’s occupant, helping to re-float the vessel successfully. Once the boat was clear of the treacherous rocks, a secure alongside tow was established.
Safe Delivery and Conclusion
The lifeboat then proceeded north to St. Just boatyard. There, the crew handed over the rescued party to the waiting Portscatho Coastguard Rescue Team, ensuring their safety and concluding the operation. By 1:55 pm, Falmouth Coastguard released the inshore lifeboat, which returned to the station by 2:20 pm.
