St Ives Gas Upgrade: Essential Work Completed on Time
Wales & West Utilities has completed essential gas pipe upgrade work in the Back Road East area of St Ives, ensuring homes and businesses can continue to rely on a safe and secure gas supply.
Essential Work Completed Without Delay
The project, which began on 2nd January, was planned in collaboration with Cornwall Council and aimed at maintaining a reliable gas supply for generations to come. Local residents were invited to a drop-in event last year to discuss the plans before work began.
Abby Smith, who managed the upgrade work for Wales & West Utilities, thanked the local community for their patience during the project.
“We’d like to thank the local community for bearing with us whilst we completed this essential work.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across St Ives. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
Future-Proofing the Gas Network
The upgrade is part of wider efforts to prepare the gas network for hydrogen and biomethane, supporting a transition to cleaner energy.
Wales & West Utilities provides gas emergency and pipeline services to 7.5 million people across the south west of England and Wales. If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call their emergency number 0800 111 999 immediately. Their engineers are available 24/7 to assist.
