English Open Championship for Ministox at United Downs Raceway This Sunday
The summer season gets underway at United Downs Raceway in St Day this weekend, with a bumper afternoon of racing scheduled for Sunday 6th July. The showpiece event will be the English Open Championship for Ministox, but there’ll be no shortage of thrills across the board.
Over 50 Bangers Lined Up for Big Return
More than 50 Bangers are expected to hit the track for their third visit of the year. Among them will be sixteen-year-old Alfie Tomkins of Roche, who made a sensational debut back in March with a hat-trick of wins, and took another race win when the Bangers returned in May.
Nigel Belfield of Redruth came out on top in that May final, and he’s back again on Sunday. It’ll be a real family affair too, with Nigel joined on track by his son Jack, his brother Carl, and nephew Dylan.

Old Skool Bangers Put on Notice
The Old Skool Bangers, known for their large rear-wheel drive cars, have been warned that low entries could threaten their future at the Raceway. All eyes will be on the numbers this Sunday.
Still, Cornish interest looks strong, with Lewis Senford of St Austell, Darryl Cock of Penryn and Jacob Read of Four Lanes all expected to take part.
Last year’s Supreme Championship was won by Lewis Fasey of Sampford Peverell. He’ll be chasing more success, aiming to outperform his father Leon, a regular racer at St Day for over 30 years.
Ministox English Open Draws Huge Crowd of Young Talent
The highlight of Sunday’s racing will be the English Open Championship for Ministox, which is expected to attract the biggest field of the Cornish season. This junior class features drivers aged 11 to 16, and is seen as the proving ground for future stars.
British Champion Mason Sealy of Bishops Lydeard will be one to watch. The thirteen-year-old is set to defend his title later this month at Smeatharpe, his home track on the Devon-Somerset border.
Challengers for the English Open title include Lexi Crosbie of Stithians, who impressed at the UK Championship in Skegness, and Leo Rabone of Totnes, the winner of May’s Ministox feature final at St Day. Jack Jones of Four Marks, Hampshire, also joins the line-up.
Special Rods Make Their Annual Visit
The non-contact Special Rods return for their yearly appearance at United Downs. Jody Jeanes of Bridgwater won twice during last year’s visit and will no doubt be hoping for a repeat performance this Sunday.
Racing starts at 1pm this Sunday, 6th July at the United Downs Raceway, St Day.
