Why Are Police Patrolling Carlyon Beach? Youth Disorder Prompts Crackdown
Increased patrols and bag checks following reports of antisocial behaviour
St Austell Police have confirmed a series of new actions will be taken at Carlyon Beach following concerns about antisocial behaviour and disorder involving young people at the privately owned site.
The Neighbourhood Team recently met with partners involved in managing the site to agree a way forward after receiving reports of large gatherings and incidents of disorder. As a result, the following steps will now be put in place:
-
Targeted patrols by both police officers and site security to directly address incidents of antisocial behaviour.
-
Liaison with local secondary schools to gather information on potential large gatherings of young people.
-
Bag checks by security officers, with alcohol confiscated if a young person is suspected of being under the age of 18.
-
Banning letters issued by the landowners to anyone identified as causing disorder, committing a crime, or engaging in antisocial behaviour.
Because the beach is privately owned, the landowner has the legal right to ban individuals from entering. Anyone who breaches such a ban could face prosecution for trespass through the civil courts.
Parents caught supplying alcohol
During the meeting, information was shared about parents being seen by security staff in the beach car park supplying alcohol to underage young people. Police are urging these parents to act responsibly and to support efforts to keep Carlyon Beach a safe and enjoyable place for the whole community.
A spokesperson for the Neighbourhood Team said:
“The beach is a much valued place by generations of the local community. Please support the police and our partners in ensuring that the beach remains an enjoyable and safe environment for the local community.”
