Discover the Biking B.E.A.T: Free Cycling Events in St Austell
Making better travel choices is not only beneficial for the environment but also enhances mental and physical health.
The upcoming B.E.A.T. (Better Engagement in Active Travelling) days aim to promote these benefits through a series of engaging events at St Austell Leisure Centre.
Event Details
The free events will be held on Monday, 3rd June, and Monday, 17th June, from 10 am to 3:30 pm. Funded by Active Travel England and Cornwall Council, the B.E.A.T. project is delivered by the charitable social enterprise GLL in partnership with The Cornwall Bicycle Project, TRIcycle, Cornwall Life Recycle, and the St Austell Social Prescribing Team.
Activities and Workshops
Attendees can participate in a variety of activities, including a puncture repair workshop and both indoor and outdoor cycling opportunities. There will also be a session on how to access Beryl Bikes in Cornwall. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes if they wish to join the ride out.
In addition, those with bikes they no longer use can bring them for recycling, provided they are not rusty.
Expert Advice and Health Benefits
Karen Edmond, GLL’s Community Sport Manager, highlights the advantages of cycling: “Cycling is a great way of keeping fit, saving money and helping the climate.”
Experts will be present on both days to provide free practical advice on how participants can enjoy being active in Cornwall, regardless of whether they own a bike. The events aim to raise awareness of the fun and health benefits of cycling and encourage people to explore Cornwall’s scenic beauty in an active and sustainable way.
