Lifeboat crews were first to arrive at the scene and quickly located the casualties. They remained on standby until the arrival of Helicopter 924, which was tasked with carrying out the rescue.
Coastguards Prepare for Cliff-Top Rescue
Meanwhile, coastguard rescue teams were positioned at the top of the cliffs near Wheal Charlotte, prepared for a possible cliff-top rescue. They worked to identify a safe landing site for the helicopter and advised members of the public to stay well back from the cliff edge.
The stranded individuals were successfully rescued by Helicopter 924 and airlifted to the top of the cliff. They were later transported back to their vehicle at Chapel Porth.
Powerful Helicopter Downdraft Warning
In a reminder to the public, the rescue teams said:
“We understand that rescues naturally draw attention, but we kindly remind everyone that the downdraft from the Coastguard helicopter can be incredibly powerful, especially near cliff edges.
For your safety, please keep a safe distance from the edge.”
“Excellent Teamwork All Round”
The incident was labelled Tasking #11 for St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team this year. A spokesperson concluded with thanks to all involved, saying:
“A big thank you to all attending agencies – excellent teamwork all round.”
