An unexpected discovery at Trevaunance Cove caused a temporary beach closure on Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 PM, the St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team, along with the H.M. Coastguard Portreath Rescue Team, gathered at the beach to address the situation.
Phosphorous Submarine Marker Found
The incident began when a suspicious object was found on the beach. Following protocol, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (E.O.D.) team was dispatched from Plymouth to survey the item. After conducting various checks, the E.O.D. team identified the object as a phosphorous submarine marker.
Coordinated Effort Ensures Safety
The combined efforts of the local coastguard teams and the E.O.D. were instrumental in resolving the situation safely. The phosphorous marker was successfully removed, ensuring no threat remained. The beach has now been declared fully open to the public, and beachgoers can resume their activities without concern.
Public Cooperation Appreciated
The St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation during the incident. They reiterated the importance of not touching or moving suspicious items and urged anyone who encounters such objects to alert the 999 Coastguard and beach lifeguards immediately.
This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that can be found along our shores and highlights the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting.
