Truro City Sign Max Kinsey on Season-Long Loan from AFC Bournemouth
Truro City lands promising Bournemouth defender on season-long loan
Truro City have confirmed the season-long loan signing of 20-year-old Max Kinsey from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.
The young defender arrives in Cornwall after progressing through the ranks at two top-flight clubs and is looking to make his mark in the National League.
From Southampton to the South West
Max Kinsey joined Bournemouth in 2021 after spending six years at Southampton. After making the switch from St Mary’s to Dean Court as a scholar, he played a key role in helping the Cherries win two EFL Youth Alliance titles.
His performances saw him move closer to first-team action. Ahead of the 2023/24 season, Max joined up with Bournemouth’s senior squad and made his debut last term in a 5-1 FA Cup win over West Bromwich Albion, coming off the bench.
He was named on the bench for Bournemouth’s fourth-round FA Cup win over Everton and made the matchday squad 14 times during the 2024/25 campaign.
Leadership and experience at youth level
Max captained Bournemouth’s under-21 side as they won Group South of the Professional League, eventually falling short in the play-offs to Brentford.
Speaking to trurocity.co.uk, Max said: “I’m buzzing to be down here and I have been looking for a loan for a couple of years. Truro is the right place to come and develop and I want to help the team also.
“Over the past few years, I have been in and around the under-18s, under-21s at Bournemouth since going full-time. I feel like I am used to football on a full-time basis and ready to make that step in the National League.
“There are a few boys at Bournemouth that have come down to Truro and they have spoken nothing but high praise for the club and it definitely appealed to me, coming to Truro, when the option arose.”
Ready for the challenge
The Guildford-born centre-back describes himself as comfortable on the ball but fully aware of what’s needed to succeed at this level.
“I am composed on the ball, but not afraid to put a challenge in because in this league, you can’t mess around,” he said. “I am good on the ball and I can play, but if you have to stick it in row Z, I can also do that.
“I want to get as many minutes as possible at Truro, whilst developing personally as a player.”
