Striker makes permanent move after helping secure promotion

Truro City have confirmed the permanent signing of striker Luke Jephcott on a two-year deal, following his impressive loan spell last season.

The 25-year-old joined the Tinners from Newport County in January and went on to score six goals in 17 appearances, playing a key role as City were crowned National League South champions.

From Ponsanooth to Promotion

Born in Wales but raised in Ponsanooth near Falmouth, Luke began his professional career with Plymouth Argyle, making over 100 appearances and scoring 37 goals for the Greens.

His return to Cornwall earlier this year marked something of a full circle. A loan spell at Truro in early 2019–20 was where his career began to take off. After being recalled by Argyle in January 2020, he netted five goals in four starts and was named EFL Player and Young Player of the Month. He went on to hit double figures in each of the next two League One seasons.

Speaking to trurocity.co.uk, Luke said:

“I came in during the second half of last season and I just wanted to find my love for football, which I definitely found, back home with Truro.

Being closer to home was great and it helped to be part of a great group of players and working for great staff too.”

Making an Impact on and off the Pitch

Luke’s arrival in January was met with widespread excitement from fans, and he quickly lived up to the hype. He scored on his second debut away at Hampton & Richmond and later grabbed crucial goals against Boreham Wood and Worthing.

“To win the league and create history for Truro City is something that I will never forget,” Luke added.

“Although we are in the bottom west part of the country, we have amazing fans. We had some long away games last year and we still had fans coming and supporting us. In home games, the fans were the difference, with their support giving us extra encouragement.”

Before his time with Newport County, Luke also played for St Johnstone in Scotland and Swindon Town, joining the Robins in 2022 from Plymouth Argyle.

Looking Ahead to a New Challenge

With Truro preparing for their first season in the National League, Luke’s experience will be vital to manager John Askey’s squad. Having played over 200 professional games, he’s expected to bring leadership and composure in what promises to be a challenging new chapter for the club.

“Next year will be a journey into the unknown, but I can’t wait to see what it will bring,” Luke said.

“I like to think I bring a decent amount of experience, playing over 200 professional games and I am hoping that this will hopefully help the team, in some games where we might need it.”

His permanent signing is not just a boost on the pitch but a homecoming that completes a personal journey – and one the fans will no doubt hope leads to another historic season for the club.
