Truro City are thrilled to announce the signing of 22-year-old Sam Sanders on a two-year contract. Sanders, who spent last season on loan with Truro, has made a permanent move to the Tinners after an impressive loan spell.
From Nottingham Forest to Truro
Sam Sanders began his football career at Premier League club Nottingham Forest. His journey in professional football saw him initially join York City on loan during the 2021-22 campaign. Under the management of John Askey, Sanders played a significant role in helping York achieve promotion from the National League North.
In July 2022, Sanders’ loan move to York City was made permanent. He made 20 appearances in the National League during the 2022-23 season before being loaned out to Boston United. Returning to York for the start of the 2023-24 season, Sanders was again loaned out, this time to Truro City.
Successful Loan Spell at Truro
During his loan tenure with Truro City, Sanders made 27 appearances and scored one goal, contributing to a 2-1 victory against Chelmsford City. His consistent performances helped Truro retain their status in the National League South.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Sanders expressed his enthusiasm about the permanent move: “I enjoyed myself playing on loan down here last season. I got quite a lot of games under my belt and it was a great group of lads. With that in mind, it was an easy decision to come back and play under John again. I know what he wants and what he likes.”
John Askey’s First Signing
John Askey, recently appointed as Truro City’s manager, has welcomed Sanders as his first signing. Askey, who previously managed Sanders at York, is pleased to reunite with the defender. “I am pleased to get Sam because he is the right character and he’s a good age. He is somebody who has got promoted from the North version of the division Truro play in so he knows what it is all about.”

As Truro City welcomes Sanders, they also bid farewell to Ed Palmer, whose contract was cancelled by mutual consent. The 32-year-old made 41 league appearances last season, scoring six goals and playing a crucial role in securing the team’s Step Two status.
Palmer, who began his career at Torquay United, had four spells with Truro and also played for Taunton Town and Weymouth. The club has extended their best wishes to Palmer for his future endeavours, thanking him for his dedication and contributions over the years.
With Sanders’ signing, Truro City aims to strengthen their defence and build on their success from last season under the guidance of John Askey.
