He’s Back: Why Morgan Nelson’s Return Could Be a Game-Changer for the Pirates
Former Wales U18s hooker re-signs with Cornish side
Cornish Pirates have confirmed that hooker Morgan Nelson will return to the squad for next season, in a move that’s bound to excite fans and boost the team’s prospects.
Morgan, 25, made 49 appearances for the Pirates and scored 19 tries before signing with Gloucester Rugby in October. At the time, his departure marked a step up to the Premiership, having already been recognised as one of the top hookers in the Championship.
A familiar face with fresh experience
Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver is clearly pleased to have Morgan back in the fold.
“Before he left us Morgan was rightly earmarked as one of the best hookers in the Championship, and he now has the experience of having been involved at a top-level environment.
“We are clearly delighted that he’ll be back with us, as he is still young and ambitious and has a lot of rugby ahead of him yet. It’s a massive plus because he knows our set up, will fit back in easily, and he is one of those players who adds something extra, both on and off the field.”
Excitement ahead of next season
Morgan also shared his thoughts on the return:
“Having the opportunity to come back down and play rugby for the Cornish Pirates is something special. I’m excited for next season and to see what the team can achieve.”
The return adds to a run of positive player announcements for the Pirates, and brings back a well-known figure with proven talent and local experience.
