Nine-Try Pirates Pass the 50-Mark

Falmouth 20 – Cornish Pirates Amateurs 55

Playing Falmouth away in this Counties 1 Tribute Western West league contest, the now fifth-placed Pirates Amateurs ran in nine tries at the home team’s Recreation Ground. Also, with five conversions added, they took their tally past the 50-mark.

Skipper and prop Ben Taylor, along with centre Josh Semmens, notched up two tries apiece for the Pirates to add to others scored by centre Morgan Holman, scrum-half Sam Carter, number 8 Archie Pilcher, wing Sam Coogan, and full-back Ben Wragg, who also kicked the five mentioned conversions.

For the home side tries were scored by centres Harry Walsh-Newton and Seb Firth, and prop Rowan Lawrence. Scrum-half Tomas Townsend also landed one penalty and a conversion.

Pirates Amateurs’ head coach Murray Westren was pleased with his team’s effort, saying:

“It was very pleasing to back up another strong performance in what could have been a tricky league encounter.

“We attacked against the wind in the first half, and played some excellent rugby, as good as displayed in a while.

“Our set piece also functioned strongly, helping set platforms that enabled us to score some great tries.”
