Dan Rooney Signs New Contract with Truro City Ahead of 2025-26 Season
Key player returns as Tinners prepare for life at Step 1
Truro City have confirmed that Dan Rooney has signed a new contract ahead of the 2025-26 season, following a strong end to the previous campaign that saw the club secure promotion to Step 1.
The 26-year-old midfielder made 34 appearances for the Tinners last season. After overcoming a mid-season ankle injury, he played a vital role in the club’s successful push for promotion.
From Plymouth Argyle to Step 1
Dan began his career at Plymouth Argyle and first joined Truro on loan during the 2018-19 season. After a short spell at Bath City, he returned to Truro for the 2019-20 campaign, which was cut short by the covid-19 pandemic.
He moved to Plymouth Parkway in the summer of 2022 but returned to Truro just a year later. His contract expired last month, but he has now agreed fresh terms with the club.
“It was a no brainer”
Speaking to trurocity.co.uk, Dan said:
“For me it was a no brainer to sign on. I had been asking questions during the last couple of months of the season because I knew where I wanted to be, and that is here.
“The last couple of months of the season, I hit some form as I found my position and at the moment, I am absolutely buzzing.”
Back to full-time football
Reflecting on the uncertainty around his contract, Dan added:
“There is always pressure when your contract is up. But I felt confident I would get a new deal, even though getting promoted means we are going full-time.
“I didn’t really know what was going to happen, but I spoke to the gaffer (manager John Askey) and Yetts (assistant manager Stewart Yetton) and they reassured me about what the plan was going to be.
“Talking about the pressure though, I think some players play better under pressure and the way things were going, with us winning games, always in the top three, it wasn’t always on my mind.
“The opportunity to become a professional full-time footballer again is an opportunity that not many people get. Leaving my job and going back into full-time football is a risk, but when I weighed things up, there were lots of pros and no cons.”
Dan’s commitment is another boost for Truro as they prepare for the challenge of Step 1 football in the upcoming season.
