Cornish Pirates Star Makes Big Move: Bruce Houston Bound for France

Fly-half Bruce Houston will leave the Cornish Pirates at the end of this season to begin a new chapter overseas.

The popular number ten has agreed a deal to join French club Bourg-en-Bresse – Union Sportive Bressane (US Bressane), who compete in the Nationale league — the third tier of French rugby.

A Key Player for the Pirates

Bruce has been a near ever-present figure in the Pirates squad since joining two seasons ago. He has made 45 appearances so far, racking up an impressive 271 points during his time in Cornwall.

“A Real Influence”

Speaking about Bruce’s departure, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Gavin Cattle praised his contribution both on and off the pitch.

“Bruce has been a great contributor during his time with us. Besides his performances in matches, he has really contributed off the field and has been a real influence within the squad.”

Gavin highlighted Bruce’s leadership qualities and calm approach, adding:

“He is a good leader in his own style and is also very calm and understanding, and the opportunity that has arisen for him is obviously an exciting one.”

“It will be a different experience and we’ll naturally be wishing him all the best.”
