Cornish Mum Selected to Represent Great Britain in Bodybuilding World Championships
“I want to show my daughters and anyone else who has ever doubted themselves, that if you work hard enough, you really can make your dreams come true.”
Louise Hick, a 33-year-old mother of two from Liskeard, Cornwall, has been selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming Bodybuilding World Championships in Rome this September. Louise’s journey from struggling new mum to elite athlete is both inspiring and empowering, showing that with determination and hard work, extraordinary achievements are possible.
From Motherhood Struggles to Muscle Building
Louise’s journey into the world of bodybuilding began after the birth of her second child. “I love my children to pieces, but I’ll be honest, becoming a mum was really hard for me,” she admits. The transition to motherhood was a challenging experience, leaving her feeling as though she had lost her sense of identity. “I felt like I had lost my independence, lost who Lou was before becoming a mum,” she explained.
Determined to reclaim her sense of self, Louise turned to bodybuilding, a sport she had always admired. She started a rigorous training regime, committing herself fully to the process. Just 10 months later, in April 2023, Louise entered her first bodybuilding competition. Her success at this and subsequent events led to her being invited to compete at the prestigious world championships.
Building a New Identity
Beyond her personal fitness achievements, Louise is also a dedicated coach and runs the ‘Onefitwarrior’ fitness studio in Widegates, Looe. Here, she supports people of all ages and abilities in reaching their health and wellbeing goals. Her own journey has been a source of inspiration for her clients, motivating her to take on the challenge of competitive bodybuilding.
“My clients really inspired me to do something that would push me out of my comfort zone, that would hopefully inspire and encourage others,” Louise shared. She speaks passionately about the power of the female body, highlighting how it can adapt and achieve incredible things, from pregnancy and labour to building muscle and becoming stage lean.
Raising Funds for Rome
Now, with the world championships just around the corner, Louise is focused on making her community and country proud. “Never in a million years would I have thought I would have had an invite to the world championships. It is such a massive opportunity. I am determined to do Cornwall proud!”
Louise and her supporters are actively fundraising to cover the costs associated with competing in Rome. Her story is a testament to perseverance, and she hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams, no matter the challenges.
