South West Water has pledged to keep people out of water poverty across the region until 2030, promising fairer billing, expanded smart metering, and a £200 million support package for Pennon customers.

Financial Help for Those Who Need It

With over a million UK households struggling to pay their water bills, according to the Consumer Council for Water (CCW), South West Water is committing to keeping bills as low as possible. The company offers two social tariffs—WaterCare and WaterSure—designed to help reduce costs for those in need.

Ketan Hindocha, Customer Director at South West Water, said: “The wellbeing of every one of our customers is incredibly important to us – this may be in the form of financial wellbeing and the support we give to those who may be finding it hard, but we want to go even further.

“We have worked hard to eradicate water poverty for all of our customers by 2025 and extending this pledge for the next five years is the right thing to do.”

Smart Meters and Investment

By 2030, the company plans to install 440,000 additional smart meters, allowing nearly half of its customers to monitor their water usage more accurately. This move aims to help households manage their spending and reduce waste.

South West Water is also investing a record £3.2 billion over the next five years, reinforcing its commitment to supporting customers through the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
