Applications Now Open for ‘Better Futures’ Programme

Local groups across the South West are being invited to apply for a share of South West Water’s Better Futures funding programme, which offers £5 million in community support over the next five years.

The programme, which launched earlier this year, is part of a wider effort to help people and places across the region thrive. It aims to support projects that promote education, health and wellbeing, physical activity and environmental outcomes.

Better Futures sits alongside a wider £200 million support package announced in December by South West Water’s parent company, Pennon, to help customers facing financial hardship.

Two Funding Streams

The scheme is split into two key areas:

  • Hardship funding: Small grants designed to support individuals and families experiencing sudden financial difficulties.

  • Community funding: For groups working to improve education, wellbeing, community connections or environmental impact.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants include schools, colleges, registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, constituted groups or clubs, Community Interest Companies (CICs), and other local community groups operating within South West Water’s service area.

To be considered, projects must focus on at least one of the following areas:

  • Nature and the environment – projects that benefit both nature and community wellbeing

  • Education – opportunities for people of all ages to learn and grow

  • Community – efforts to build purpose and togetherness

  • Vulnerability – support for people who need extra help

Funding can go towards equipment, training, salaries for those working directly on the project, or professional services such as builders or designers.

Company CEO Encourages Applications

Susan Davy, CEO of Pennon, said:
“Supporting our customers is hugely important, both to me and to all of my dedicated colleagues across the region. This extends well beyond the essential drinking and wastewater services we provide and includes financial wellbeing and the support we give to those who may be struggling.

“Better Futures is about doing more than ever before and my brilliant team and I are looking forward to welcoming applications to the community funding programme as we take action to support our customers and communities.”
