Final Call for Cornwall Residents to Earn £10 Credit by Conserving Water

Published On: 26 April 2024Last Updated: 26 April 2024By

As the deadline approaches, South West Water is encouraging customers in Cornwall to intensify their water-saving efforts to qualify for a potential £10 credit on their water bills.

The trial tariff, set to conclude on 5 May, requires a collective 5% reduction in water usage across the county.

Water Savings Within Reach

Since the introduction of the tariff trial in February, there has been a noticeable decrease in water demand across Cornwall. South West Water has provided several straightforward tips to further reduce consumption: shortening shower times, turning off taps while brushing teeth, and utilising eco modes on dishwashers and washing machines only when fully loaded.

Laura, South West Water’s Chief Customer and Digital Officer, highlighted the successful replenishment of reservoirs following a rainy winter, paired with sustained customer efforts, which has made them confident in avoiding hosepipe bans this year. She reiterated the dual benefits of water conservation, emphasising both environmental protection and financial savings.

Investment in Water Resources

Under the banner of the “Water is Precious” campaign, South West Water is not only urging efficient water use among residents, businesses, and visitors but is also committing £125 million to enhance the region’s water infrastructure. This includes developing new water sources and reducing leaks, with a projected increase in water resources by 45% in Cornwall and 30% in Devon by 2025.

How to Participate and Save

Residents interested in participating in the tariff trial and learning more about simple water-saving techniques can find further information on South West Water’s dedicated web page: southwestwater.co.uk/household/your-services/save-water/water-is-precious.

With just one week left, the push for conservation is more critical than ever, offering a win-win opportunity for both the environment and the wallets of Cornwall residents.
