£100,000 Boost: How South West Water Is Changing Lives in Devon and Cornwall

Over 50 charities and community groups across Devon and Cornwall have received a share of £100,000 in funding from South West Water’s Neighbourhood Fund over the past year. The support has helped provide vital services to local communities, focusing on physical activities, education, health, and environmental projects.

Supporting Families Through Loss

One of the charities to benefit is Luna’s Fund, a Plymouth-based organisation that helps families coping with the loss of a child. With the funding, Luna’s Fund directly supported 11 couples within the local baby loss community.

Aimee Conroy, Founder of Luna’s Fund, expressed gratitude for the backing, saying:

“On behalf of the local baby loss community, we thank South West Water for facilitating support for those who found themselves in need of our unique services.”

Helping Neurodivergent Children in Cornwall

Liskeard-based Get Together Cornwall also received support, using the funding to create an outdoor therapy space. The charity specialises in personalised therapy sessions for neurodivergent children, with a focus on non-verbal children and their families.

A parent who benefited from the service described the impact, saying:

“I was at breaking point with no support and made to feel I was a bad parent but Get Together Cornwall came along and my life changed.

“The therapist is obviously there for my son but also there for me which means so much. I no longer feel alone and I now feel like a great parent and that my child is unique and special in his own ways which we celebrate.”

A Commitment to Community Support

Ketan Hindocha, South West Water’s Customer Director, highlighted the importance of supporting these local efforts:

“There are so many fantastic charities and community initiatives which enrich the lives of our customers and visitors to the region and we’re proud to be able to support some of the amazing work they do.

“The people driving these local causes are a real inspiration and reflect the very best qualities of the communities we serve.”

Since launching in 2021, the Neighbourhood Fund has helped hundreds of community groups across the region. Those interested in applying for support can find more details on the South West Water website.
