Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station has announced a new appointment for its Tamar class all-weather lifeboat. Nick Hichens has officially been named the station’s next full-time Coxswain.

A Lifelong Dedication to Saving Lives at Sea

Nick’s connection to Sennen Cove and its lifeboat station runs deep. Raised in the cove, his family has been involved with the lifeboat service for many generations. For the past 19 years, Nick has served as a volunteer with the RNLI, dedicating countless hours to the safety of those on the seas.

During his time at the station, Nick achieved qualifications as a helm for the ‘D’ class inshore lifeboat and as a mechanic for the all-weather lifeboat. In 2023, his hard work and dedication culminated in qualifying as a Coxswain for the Tamar class all-weather lifeboat.

A Fisherman with Unmatched Local Knowledge

Nick’s career as a fisherman has provided him with extensive knowledge of the local waters off Cornwall’s south-west coast. This expertise, combined with his RNLI experience, makes him an ideal leader to guide the station’s volunteers in their lifesaving missions.

A New Chapter for Sennen Cove

The appointment of Nick marks a significant moment for Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station. His journey from volunteer to full-time Coxswain showcases the dedication and expertise required to uphold the RNLI’s mission of saving lives at sea.

Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station shared the news on their Facebook page, congratulating Nick on his new role and thanking him for his ongoing commitment to the station.
