Suspected Arson Devastates Saltash Cricket Club: Vital Equipment Destroyed
Firefighters Respond to Blaze at Chapel Field
Saltash Cricket Club suffered a devastating setback on 2nd January when a fire destroyed a container holding essential equipment. At 16:07, firefighters from Saltash and Devon were dispatched to Chapel Field to tackle the blaze, which is suspected to be an act of arson. The container housed vital gear used to maintain the ground and equipment necessary for match days.
Saltash Fire Station reported that two appliances from Saltash and one from Devon attended the scene, using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, the fire was contained, preventing it from spreading to the adjacent changing rooms.
10 Years of Hard Work Lost
The club, which has spent over a decade building up its collection of adult and youth equipment through fundraising and sponsorships, described the incident as “devastating.” The equipment played a key role in maintaining the outfield for the community and ensuring cricket matches could take place.
Appeal for Information
Saltash Cricket Club is urging anyone with information about the suspected arson to come forward. Members of the public are encouraged to contact the police on 101, quoting crime reference number 50250001231.
Both the cricket club and Saltash Fire Station have stressed the importance of community support in identifying those responsible for the fire.
