Saltash Town Council Discovers Missing War Heroes: New Memorial Benches Planned
Saltash Town Council has recently uncovered that some names may have been missing from the borough’s war memorials, an oversight now being corrected. Thanks to the efforts of Peter Clements, a local resident, a full list of the missing names has been compiled and verified by the Borough War Memorial Working Group.
Crowdfunder Launched for Memorial Benches
In response to this discovery, Saltash Town Council is launching a Crowdfunder campaign, inviting contributions from the people of Saltash and beyond. The aim is to fund new memorial benches, which will be placed next to the existing Borough War Memorials near St Nicholas and St Faith Church, across from the Memorial Peace Garden.
The new benches will bear the names that were previously omitted, ensuring that every individual from the town who served and sacrificed is remembered. This campaign allows the community to play a direct role in honouring their past, much like how war memorials have traditionally been funded through public donations.
How to Contribute
For those looking to donate, you can visit the Town Council’s Crowdfunder page to learn more or make a contribution. Alternatively, for those unable to donate online, assistance is available at the Guildhall or the Library Hub, where staff are ready to help.
Saltash Town Council is committed to ensuring that the phrase “We Will Remember Them” includes every individual known to have served and sacrificed for their town.
