Saltash Town Council Announces Closure of Longstone Park Public Conveniences Due to Vandalism
Saltash Town Council has announced the indefinite closure of the public conveniences located at Longstone Park, following a series of vandalism incidents.
The decision to close these facilities comes as a response to the recent damage, despite the conveniences having only reopened on the 1st of April after a winter closure for similar reasons.
Repeated Vandalism
The council had previously decided to close the facilities during the winter months, citing ongoing vandalism as the primary reason. This decision was made at the Services Committee meeting on the 12th of October, 2023. Unfortunately, shortly after reopening this spring, the conveniences were once again subjected to vandalism.
Upcoming Discussion
The future of the Longstone Park Public Conveniences is set to be a key agenda item at the upcoming Services Committee meeting. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 11th of April, 2024, at 6:30 pm in the Guildhall. During this session, members will discuss potential steps forward and considerations for the facilities’ reopening.
Alternative Facilities
In the meantime, the town council has directed residents and visitors to utilise alternative public conveniences available within the town. These include facilities located at:
- Alexandra Square Car Park
- Belle Vue Road Short Stay Car Park
- Saltash Waterside
For those interested in the opening times and exact locations of these alternative conveniences, detailed information is available on the Saltash Town Council’s official website.
Community Impact
The closure of the Longstone Park conveniences underscores the broader implications of vandalism on community resources and public facilities. The Saltash Town Council remains committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring the availability of essential services to the public.
The community awaits the outcomes of the forthcoming Services Committee meeting, hopeful for a resolution that will see the restoration and sustained operation of the Longstone Park Public Conveniences.
